Weiler Abrasives Makes Strides Towards a Greener Future with Launch of Photovoltaic Systems
Unlocking sustainable advantages: harnessing solar power for a green future
ZREČE, Slovenia — October 10, 2023 — Weiler Abrasives, a global provider of abrasives, power brushes, and maintenance products for surface conditioning, announces a major leap towards sustainability with the initiation of two photovoltaic systems at its Maribor and Zreče manufacturing facilities, commencing operations in October 2023.
These photovoltaic systems represent a significant commitment to harnessing clean, renewable solar energy, aligning with Weiler Abrasives’ dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainability. The installation is designed to contribute up to one-fifth of Weiler Abrasives’ electricity requirements in its Slovenian facilities and, as a result, decrease nearly 900 tons of CO2 emissions annually through climate-friendly solar energy.
“The combined output of this impressive 1,839 kWp solar power installation is remarkable, generating electricity equivalent to the demand of around 1,000 households. This initiative significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to removing 500 medium-sized cars from the road annually,” explains Rok Mezgec, Director – Supply Chain and R&D at Weiler Abrasives. “As a founding member of the Sustainable Abrasives Association of Europe (SEAM), Weiler Abrasives is committed to the industry's shared goals on three key pillars of sustainability: environment, society, and business. The systems are of important strategic significance to Weiler Abrasives.
